This page contains examples of my copies of some selected works of Zdenek Burian.
My renderings of Burian’s works are not precise copies, nor do they intend to be. They only attempt to capture the vibe of Burian’s ingenious and unparalleled style. They also differ from the originals in size and support medium – they are smaller than the originals they capture, and they are painted on canvas on pasteboard or wooden panel, while Burian’s originals are mostly painted on canvas stretched on a wooden frame.
My copies are only as good as the photographic reproductions of Burian’s works that I had at my disposal. In other words, I did not have access to the originals while painting these copies. This means that the colour rendition of my copies is not necessarily identical to the originals. In fact, it may be quite inaccurate, but that is due to the photos I worked from.
Finally, I need to stress that these copies were made for educational purposes only, and must not be passed as originals. Burian’s works are protected by copyright – http://www.zdenekburian.com/en/
Can you guess which is Burian’s original painting? Is it A or B?
